At 59, Mark lives independently in Leeds, enjoying life at his own pace following a long career in the entertainment industry. Although he lives alone, he receives regular visits from carers to support him with daily tasks.

Mark was born with Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease (CMT), a condition that damages the peripheral nerves. Over time, the progression of CMT has significantly affected his mobility and dexterity, making everyday activities increasingly difficult.

One of the most challenging tasks Mark faced was maintaining his independence when using the toilet.

As my hands got worse, simple things like using toilet paper just weren’t possible anymore, Mark explains. Grabbing and wiping became too difficult.

Looking back, Mark is surprised he managed without one for so long.

I couldn’t believe how good it was when I first started using it, he says. I’d put up with not being able to clean myself properly before, when there’s such an easy solution.

I’ve got to know the engineers who come to service them — they’re all great guys. I really trust them, he says. The service from Closomat has been faultless.

Even Mark’s friends are impressed.
