A Simple Solution That Continues to Make a Difference

Maggie, 70, lives in New Addington near Croydon. The Closomat Wash and Dry Toilet in her home was originally installed to support her late husband, who had diabetes and found it difficult to manage personal hygiene independently.

Because he was a larger man, Maggie’s husband struggled to reach and wipe comfortably after using the Toilet, and he relied on Maggie for help. Although he preferred not to discuss these personal needs, he was happy for Maggie to speak to an occupational therapist on his behalf. Following an assessment, their local authority arranged for their bathroom to be adapted and a Closomat Wash and Dry Toilet installed, funded through a Disabled Facilities Grant.

Since her husband sadly passed away, Maggie has continued to benefit from the toilet herself. She lives with IBS and finds the targeted wash function really helpful for maintaining good hygiene and comfort.

It helps me feel so much fresher, Maggie says. I don’t use the wash and dry functions every day, but when I need them, they make a huge difference – I feel really clean. It’s absolutely incredible.

The toilet was fitted with integrated fold down support arms and an infra-red remote control for her husband, but Maggie later chose to have these removed, as she is comfortable using the toilet without them.

For Maggie, the Closomat continues to provide reassurance and support when she needs it, acting as a conventional toilet for her and her visiting grandchildren for the rest of the time.
