“It’s wonderful, everyone should have one, it’s the Rolls-Royce compared to a Ferrari”. What is it? A toilet…

The comment comes from leading thalidomide campaigner Guy Tweedy, about his new Closomat Palma Vita automatic wash and dry toilet installed at his Harrogate home. The Closomat includes built-in washing and drying. As a result there is no need to manually cleanse with toilet tissue – an issue for Guy as he has a shortened left arm and deformed fingers on both hands.

“It is logical that cleaning with water/showering is more effective than wiping with paper. Everyone should have a shower toilet,” says Guy (51).

“I have had automatic toilets from a different manufacturer before, but a friend of mine, who is also thalidomide, recommended the Closomat to me. The Closomat cleans better, and is reputed to be more reliable. It’s wonderful. The other is a Ferrari, the Closomat is the Rolls-Royce!”

The Closomat Palma Vita is the only automatic wash and dry toilet developed specifically for disabled people. It looks like, and can be used as, a conventional WC. Simply retaining pressure on the flush pad triggers simultaneous flushing and warm water washing, followed by warm air drying. Thus the need for manual cleaning with toilet tissue, and hand: body contact, is eliminated, improving hygiene, cleanliness, and the user’s dignity and independence.

A range of accessories enables the toilet to be tailored to individual user requirements, either at point-of-purchase, or retro-fitted as user’s needs change.

Since Closomats were first introduced, over 40,000 have been sold, and can now be found in domestic and commercial environments across the country – there is even one on a narrowboat, and several on the Jubilee Trust’s tall ships! The Closomat Palma Vita is the only toilet of its kind manufactured in the UK, and supported by in-house service and maintenance.

Closomat is the first choice for disabled people and their carers, to deliver quality, easy to use toileting solutions that bring greater independence, dignity and hygiene.
