Policy Statement

At Closomat, we recognise that our procurement activities play a critical role in achieving our sustainability objectives. This Procurement Sustainability Policy sets out our commitment to responsible sourcing, ethical supply chain management, and reducing the environmental and social impacts associated with the goods and services we purchase.

We are committed to ensuring that sustainability considerations are embedded into all procurement decisions, supporting long-term value creation for our business, our supply chain, our customers, and the communities and environment in which we operate.

This policy forms part of Closomat’s integrated sustainability approach and applies to all employees and third parties involved in procurement, purchasing, and supplier management.

Our Procurement Sustainability Objectives

Through sustainable procurement, we commit to:

  • Supporting sustainable, profitable growth while meeting our legal, ethical, and contractual obligations
  • Working with suppliers who demonstrate responsible environmental, social, and ethical practices
  • Reducing the environmental impact of purchased goods and services, including carbon, energy, waste, and resource use
  • Encouraging innovation in products, materials, packaging, and services to improve sustainability performance
  • Building long-term, transparent, and collaborative relationships with our supply chain
  • Aligning procurement practices with ISO 9001, ISO 14001, and ISO 45001 principles

Sustainable Supplier Selection and Management

Closomat integrates sustainability criteria into supplier selection and evaluation processes. We will:

  • Assess suppliers on their environmental, social, and ethical performance, proportionate to risk and spend
  • Give preference to suppliers who demonstrate:
    • Compliance with applicable environmental, health & safety, and labour legislation
    • Commitment to carbon reduction, energy efficiency, and pollution prevention
    • Responsible sourcing of raw materials and components
    • Ethical labour practices, including fair wages, safe working conditions, and respect for human rights
  • Encourage suppliers to hold or work towards recognised certifications such as ISO 14001, ISO 9001, and ISO 45001, where appropriate
  • Work collaboratively with key suppliers to improve sustainability performance over time

Environmental Responsibility in Procurement

We aim to minimise the environmental impact of our supply chain by:

  • Prioritising products and services with reduced environmental impact across their lifecycle
  • Working with suppliers to reduce packaging, eliminate unnecessary plastics, and increase the use of recycled and reusable materials
  • Supporting procurement decisions that contribute to reduced energy consumption and carbon emissions
  • Considering local and regional sourcing where feasible to reduce transport-related emissions

Resource Efficiency and Circular Economy

Closomat supports the principles of the circular economy through procurement by:

  • Applying the waste hierarchy: prevention, reuse, recycling, recovery and responsible disposal
  • Procuring durable, high-quality products designed for long life and minimal waste
  • Promoting repair, reuse, and refurbishment where appropriate
  • Working with suppliers to reduce waste arising from production, packaging, and logistics
  • Striving to eliminate non-conforming products through effective quality and supplier controls

Ethical and Responsible Sourcing

We are committed to conducting procurement activities ethically and transparently. We will:

  • Promote diversity, equality, and inclusion within our supply chain where possible
  • Take appropriate action where supplier practices do not align with our sustainability and ethical expectations

Continuous Improvement and Collaboration

To support ongoing improvement, we will:

  • Monitor and review supplier performance against sustainability criteria
  • Engage with suppliers to identify risks, opportunities, and improvement actions
  • Promote sustainability awareness among employees involved in procurement
  • Regularly review this policy to ensure continued relevance and effectiveness

Governance and Compliance

This Procurement Sustainability Policy is approved by senior management and is reviewed periodically as part of Closomat’s integrated management systems.

All employees involved in procurement are responsible for applying this policy. Failure to comply with this policy may result in corrective action, including review of supplier relationships.
