Thousands of people in Solihull have a new opportunity to go SoLO with the opening of a new interactive centre designed to meet their specific needs.
Solihull Life Opportunities, a charity that enables people with learning disabilities to enjoy social and leisure activities others take for granted, has joined with Solihull Carers to create and operate a base at The Annex, Streetsbrook Road, Solihull (next to the fire station).
Carefully designed for disabled use, the facility even incudes a ‘bigger and better’ accessible toilet, incorporating a Closomat Palma Vita automatic wash and dry WC, and an adapted kitchen, both on the ground floor for easy access.
“In the day, our members will use the Base as a focus for community based activities; in the evening, it will be used for social and leisure purposes,” explained CEO Janet Down. “It is therefore vital we have appropriate facilities for our members- even through to the toilet! And the adaptations enable them to experience at first hand some of the equipment and fittings that could make their lives easier: for example, the Closomat combines a ‘bidet’ and drier in the WC, so the user does not have to manually clean, or be cleaned by their carer, increasing their ability to ‘go solo…’!.”
Complimenting the activities being run downstairs at the Base, the upstairs of the building will be the new centre for Solihull Carers Centre, thus giving disabled people and their carers a ‘one stop shop’ to access fun, advice, guidance and support.
Closomat is the first choice for disabled people and their carers, to deliver quality, easy to use toileting solutions that bring greater independence, dignity and hygiene.
