To celebrate Changing Places Awareness Day 2022, we ran a giveaway offering free tickets to one of the top 15 attractions in the UK with a Changing Places toilet by Closomat. One of our lucky winners was Coldi Riches, from Teignmouth in Devon, who chose tickets to Legoland, Windsor, for her young family of five.

Coldi has three children, Luna, aged 11 and twins Rupert and Fen, aged 6. Rupert is autistic and has complex learning difficulties which affect his continence. He wears pads and needs Changing Places toilets when away from home.

We haven’t been to any theme parks since our twins were born, mainly due to toileting and physical needs. The children have been asking to visit Legoland for a long time, so they were so excited when I told them we had won tickets! We live in Devon, so it is a long way to go, but this gave us the perfect opportunity to make the journey. We went over the Christmas holidays and stayed overnight in a hotel to make the most of it.

We had an absolutely amazing time and made some great family memories – The Flight of the Sky Lion ride was everyone’s favourite! We were blessed with good weather and the access pass, with virtual queuing, made waiting to get on to each ride a lot less stressful! But having a Changing Places there was ultimately the reason we were able to visit.  It meant we could stay all day without any worries and we used it multiple times. Knowing that we could change Rupert and clean him up, without having to lie him on a coat on a toilet floor, made all the difference. We simply wouldn’t have gone if it wasn’t there. It was a brilliant end to the year for us – thank you Closomat and Legoland!

A Changing Places toilet includes an adult-sized, height-adjustable changing bed, ceiling tracking hoist, height-adjustable sink, extra space for carers and mobility equipment, as well as a peninsular toilet with drop down grab rails and all the usual sanitary disposal facilities. Changing Places toilets are required by hundreds of thousands of disabled people, their families and carers, across the UK.
