Changing Places check-in to international level
EAST MIDLANDS AIRPORT IS ‘FLYING THE FLAG’ FOR INCLUSIVITY, BECOMING THE FIRST UK MAINLAND AIRPORT TO INSTALL A CHANGING PLACES TOILET.
Strategically positioned in the terminal’s first floor departure lounge with lift access, the new facility, in part supplied by Changing Places campaign sponsor Total Hygiene, enables people with profound and multiple learning disabilities and other people with severe disabilities and who need the support of at least one carer to more fully participate in life without worrying about availability of appropriate toilets.
Larger than a conventional accessible toilet, a Changing Places toilet also includes additional equipment – a height adjustable changing bench, privacy screen and hoist.

We go to the toilet on average eight times a day. Further, research shows people- able and disabled- make a conscious decision NOT to visit somewhere if they believe they cannot go to the toilet in appropriate facilities. The installation of a Changing Places toilet at East Midlands Airport means that thousands of disabled people can now travel further afield, safe in the knowledge that they need not worry about suitable washroom facilities during their time spent at the airport.
The Changing Places campaign, run by the Changing Places consortium and sponsored by Total Hygiene, is seeing rapid acceptance of the need for its toilets: this year alone, almost 100 Changing Places toilets have been opened in venues across the country, from museums to shopping centres and car parks, bringing the total to over 350 nationwide.
