Space To Change builds on the basic provision of a wheelchair-accessible toilet, with the space and equipment to enable personal care hygienically, OFF the floor.

The concept of Space To Change toilets arose from users, the tens of thousands of people who need extra space and equipment to help their loved one with their toilet requirements away from home.

What is a Space to Change toilet facility?

Space To Change toilets bridge the gap between typical ‘Document M’ accessible toilets and the ultimate, a Changing Places facility (see our Changing Places section). A Space To Change toilet is meant as a minor upgrade/ refurbishment, to overcome the issues campaigners consistently face when asking for Changing Places: issues of space and cost. Legally providers have to offer at least a wheelchair-accessible toilet*, all they need to do is add into that an adult-sized changing bench and hoist.

Meet Our Expert - Claire Haymes

Kelvin Grimes trained as a plumber, but has a decade of experience in technical sales and support on a raft of specialist disability equipment and compliant access.

As a result, he brings to the table the ability to undertake all aspects of a Changing Places installation, from design advice and specification through surveying to installation and commissioning, balancing technical requirements with sympathy for end-user needs.

Claire Haymes joined the Closomat team in 2011, bringing a skillset that ensures a timely, efficient and professional delivery of your away from home disabled toilet facility, be it Changing Places, Space to Change or a hygiene room.

Claire is CDM Compliance & Project Co-Ordinator, being fully trained in all relevant aspects. She is also qualified to Level 3 in moving and handling procedures.

Claire is primarily office-based, to execute all administrative elements of your project, from arranging site surveys through quotes to install, commissioning, and, if required, subsequent service & maintenance.
