School investment delivers optimum personal care
A school committed to a personalized learning environment has invested in advanced toilet technology to deliver its promise for a new student – and simultaneously achieve enhanced facilities for future pupils and the wider community.
Bishop David Brown School in Woking has, under a refurbishment scheme for its pastoral facilities, just incorporated two new, special accessible toilets into the school. Equipment supplied by leading disabled toileting solutions provider Total Hygiene was installed by contractor Kier to create the rooms, which each feature equipment including a height adjustable washbasin and a Closomat Palma ‘wash and dry’ toilet with touch sensitive switch.
Richard Charles, the school’s business manager, explained,
We are only a small school with some 520 pupils. We have a new student who is a wheelchair user, and upgraded the accessible toilet to enable them to participate as fully as possible in school life. Because we’ve installed the equipment, we already have other disabled students coming next year!
The adjustability of the basin means students can set it to suit use from their wheelchair; because the Closomat toilets wash and dry the user instead of them having to use toilet tissue, the pupils don’t have to rely on staff to take them to, and assist them in using, the toilet, which improves hygiene, independence and dignity. The school is also used by the local community, so the new facilities optimise suitability for all.
